Purpose
To demonstrate ongoing commitment to maintaining the requirements and responsibilities of the Green Funeral Practices Certificate program, NFDA requires that a firm holding the designation must renew its certificate annually at this time.
Certificate Renewal Process
To renew, a GFP firm must submit the following:
1. Renewal Application (link to online application also sent with email reminder)
2. Required renewal documents including updated Green Responsibility Plan
3. Summary of participation in required annual training
4. 1-year renewal fee of $75, payable to NFDA in U.S. dollars on a U.S. bank
Renewal Due Date
Two months prior to the firm's renewal date, the designated funeral home contact will receive an emailed reminder notice. If requirements are not met by the annual renewal due date, a final reminder will be sent before the certificate expires.
The certificate renewal date is the first day of the final month of the certificate period, to allow adequate time for review of the renewal application.
Example
Certificate Period May 2014 through April 2017 - renewal deadline would be April 1, 2017.
Grace Period
There is a one-month grace period from the renewal due date. If renewal requirements are not received by NFDA by the last day of the one-month grace period, the firm's Green Funeral Practices Certificate will lapse. A nominal reinstatement fee may be assessed in addition to the annual renewal fee, and there may be additional requirements.
Failure to Comply
Failure to comply with all renewal requirements may result in postponed or denied certificate renewal until all conditions are met. If a renewing firm is unable to complete any of the requirements, NFDA must be notified in writing.
Approval Procedure
Renewals are evaluated by a review panel within 15 business days of receipt by NFDA. Recommendations for renewal are subject to final approval by the NFDA Board of Directors. Upon approval, a new certificate package will be sent. Any challenges to renewal decisions must be in writing and directed to the NFDA Board of Directors. Program records are maintained at the NFDA office in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
