This NFDA Online Course utilizes video recordings from the 2018 NFDA Embalming and Restorative Art Seminar at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. It is designed to demonstrate restorative art techniques, including the surgical reduction of swollen eyes, surgical reflection of facial tissue and treatment of lacerations and abrasions of the face.

This online course will help participants discover tried and true techniques for soft tissue repair. Expert embalmers will demonstrate proper analysis and assessment of traumatic injuries, selection of products needed for successful results and case review and discussion on actual reconstructed cases.
After completing this online course, you will be better able to:
- Identify the physiological, chemical and anatomical embalming case difficulties.
- Recognize the importance of proper chronological order of techniques in cases of trauma.
- Review analysis and assessment of traumatic injuries, and discover new and improved embalming tips and techniques.
- Overcome common embalming problems, and learn techniques for proper body preparation and viewing.
Presenter/s:
Dominick J. Astorino, CFSP, MBIE is the restorative art instructor in the mortuary science program at Wayne State University, where he lectures weekly and oversees the restorative art lab. A proponent of education, Dominick holds degrees in cellular biology and mortuary science and is a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, British Institute of Embalmers and the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. Dominick has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 2003; he works at Wujek-Calcaterra and Sons, Inc., a fourth generation family-owned firm handling 1500 funerals a year in metropolitan Detroit.

Wallace P. (Wally) Hooker CFSP, MBIE, is the owner, funeral director, and embalmer of Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, IN. He and his wife established, designed and built their funeral home in 2004. Wally attended Purdue University and is a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Wheeling, IL. He is 2016 Past President of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association. Wally is routinely called on by other funeral directors for technical consultation, to assist with their problem cases, and perform restorative work. He is an ‘in demand’ lecturer with a passion and reputation for quality no-nonsense embalming and facial reconstruction.
