NFDA is working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to conduct a brief online survey regarding the issue of unclaimed veteran remains.
The VA has a mission to serve and honor the men and women who are America’s veterans. Part of this commitment is to ensure proper interment of all veterans.
The VA would like to make organizations such as funeral homes, medical examiners, and coroners aware that reimbursement may be available for indigent veterans and unclaimed remains. Indigent veterans are those who do not have enough resources available in their estate to cover the burial and funeral expenses when they pass away. Unclaimed remains occur when veterans pass away and are not claimed by relatives, friends, and/or a legal representative. Refer to the VA’s Indigent Veterans and Unclaimed Remains website for more information.
In partnership with the VA, we are inviting our members to participate in a short five-question survey to gain insight around the handling of unclaimed remains and your thoughts on how the VA can best serve you. This anonymous survey should take less than three minutes to complete, and your responses are very important to this collaborative effort between NFDA and the VA.

In advance, we would like to thank you for your participation in this survey. As always, we are forever grateful to all veterans for their time, bravery, service, and sacrifice to this great country.
